Introduction
Poor attendance and absenteeism at the workplace is a very serious problem which needs to be addressed in accordance with accepted practices as well as in compliance with the law. In many instances, employees absent themselves as they like at the expense of the employer’s productivity. High absenteeism if not managed properly will result in higher overheads due to increased overtime payments for other employees to cover the absent employee’s duties.
Heads of department and Supervisors are the ones who spend most of the time working with the workers who form the bulk of the workforce. Sometimes they may find themselves in a situation when they are required to discipline their subordinates due to absenteeism but failed to do so. Unless they are trained to manage their subordinate’s absenteeism in accordance with accepted practices, their actions would likely have detrimental effects on the organization and the management. This may even result in expensive legal action by the employees.
This course has been formulated to assist the participants to achieve the following:
- Identify the role and responsibility of supervisor
- Recognize the importance of formulating and enforcing disciplinary procedure
- Define tardiness and absenteeism as a misconduct
- Train the participants to effectively manage and deal with absenteeism at the workplace.
- Expose wrong methods and practices of disciplining absent employees
