Case Study 1: Improper Absenteeism Management Of Employees


Chong is a very hardworking employees. He only completed his MCE, however, because of his hardwork, dedication and willing to learn, he completed his degree and promoted from clerk to human resource manager. Chong believe everyone should be like him, because that is the only path to succeed.

One day, one of his subordinate name Ali had been absent for a week. Chong is furious. He wanted to make this as an example to others. Thus, when Ali came the next week, Chong burst out his anger and terminate Ali straight away, in front of other employees, without giving Ali a chance to explain himself.

Ali just simply left without muttered a word. The reason why Ali is absent for a week because he had to manage his mother's funeral, which is located in an remote areas in Sarawak. Thus, this cause Ali to lost any means of communicating with Chong. Hearing this, Chong is a little stunned, but still felt his actions was justified.

After firing Ali, in just a month, many of Chong employees resigned voluntary. One of them said directly to Chong face that "I do not want to work with a heartless Boss, which sees us as merely a tool in completing a job". Employees that resigned including Ali were among Chong best employees.

Of course, Chong did not have a problem to find a replacement, however, new employees are not skillful and dedicated like Ali and others. Chong felt regret for his rash desicion and promised himself to not take hasty actions.

Case Study 2: Improper Absenteeism Management Of Employees 2


Joseph Lee in an owner of small grocery business. He only had a few but dedicated and hardworking employees working for him, and for that Joseph is grateful. One day, his cashier Mila call him frantically and asked him to give him a few days of leave. Mila says that her cat swallow her car keys.

On first thought, Joseph wanted to give such leave, but his wife, who heard the conversation along, said to Joseph that Mila is trying to con him and the cat excuses is just a make up story. Hearing this, Joseph did not give Mila any leave because Mila is not entitled to any. Mila is furious and through the phone call, she asked to resign straight away without taking her salary, in which Joseph comply.

The next day, Joseph hired a new cashier. One of his employees which is Mila close friend said that Mila's cat has successfully undergo surgery. Joseph was shocked. Apparently, Mila did not lie. However, the damage is done. The new cashier were caught stealing a month after. Other employees morale gone downhill since Mila gone.

Seeing this, Joseph tried to recruit Mila back with higher salary plus benefits, however Mila rejected the offer straightaway and the reason is that she did not want to work with someone who does not trust her and she got her own principle. Joseph learn his lesson and promise to himself to hear both side of the story before making a decision.

Case Study 3: Impact of Proper Absenteeism Management


Amat is a human resource executive at one of accounting firm. He just receive new employees named Azam a month ago. One day Azam asked Amat if he can take a few days off to go fishing. He said that he had planned this since before he reported for duty.

Amat at first is reluctant, this month is an audit month, thus the task is piling. Moreover, Azam had just working for a month, thus he did not entitled to give him any leave just yet. However, as fishing is Amat hobby too, he knows how sad Azam felt if he did not give this leave.

Amat decided to use discretion and give Azam the leave he requested. Azam was so happy and he promised to perform after he back from fishing. Azam delivered his promise. Not only he perform well, he also stay after working hours to finished his work. Amat is very pleased by this dedication.
